The 990 Duke was a fun very reliable bike. Power compares fairly well, I think the 790 is a better road handler though, and much lighter. My 990 weighed in at 460, where my 790 right now is at 413,but feels much lighter than the differences show. Ktm 790 Duke, BMW GS ,Aprilia Tuono. C.

In years past KTM had it's issues, but they are much more reliable now, like nearing Japanese bikes in reliability. My brother still tells a story of his buddy that had a 20+ year old KTM that was in the shop more than it was ridden, old "fuddlore" that never dies.
Great fun, though). The 690 Duke is the best all-round bike for me, but it took time to appreciate its handling. For a while I felt the bars were too wide and the handling is very "chuckable". On most sports bikes, I plan ahead, but sometimes on the Duke I change lines just for laughs. Mine has been totally reliable.

KTM reliability issues aside, the Duke 790 is an extremely torque happy bike, and would be hard to learn proper throttle control, and clutch management on. One whiskey throttle or accidental clutch dump, and you're probably going down. It's not even like a 600cc supersport where "theoretically", you could stay low in the rpms so you don't have
